AND I'M REALLY HAPPY!
It has already been a year and my travelling adventure backpacking around the globe has come to an end! Even though I had a great year full of wondrous things and meeting so many people and seeing a lot it feel great to be back home again. I have tons of new stock and i will proceed in uploading as much as i possibly can asap :heart:

How are you all?? How has the last year been treating you?? I've missed you all and I will start the process of going through all... 693 PAGES of comments and notifications of stock use :faint: It might take a while.. :lol:

Travel blog

As most of you know by now I'm currently backpacking around the world with my amazing guy, so stock and comments from my side are sparse until i get back next year!

We have finally finished our travel blog where we will update our travels and upload photos, so if you are curious where I'm at at the moment....have a look:

Moved country!


It all happened rather quickly, but all of a sudden me and my man found ourselves leaving the UK for the sun in Spain :) The fact is that we are going away on some major travels around our beautiful planet and until we leave we needed to get some sun, relax and plan it all and we decided that sitting in cloudy Wales or Costa del Sol to do it, was not a hard choice to make!

So some big changes are happening for me lately and this will affect my presence here in dA for the next year or so. But it doesn't change anything for you guys more than the fact i wont be in here as much. You can still use all my stock in ANYTHING you like as long as you do not reproduce or distribute the images as is. See my full rules further down in this journal please!!

I will take as many photographs that my hard memory cards will allow during my travels and i will upload MEGA bunches of stock during travel (if possible and i can) but otherwise when i get back. So stay tuned :D

Spring? Yes please :)


Today the first midges arrived so within a few days we should have an insect infestation here. They might be annoying little buggers, but them being around means that spring is here so it's all good!

(Tip: If you don't like millions of midges buzzing around you when you go outside in spring, don't live in Cardiff bay :giggle: )

I'm back from my trip home to Sweden to visit family and friends and i had a great time. I've filled up on proper, rye bread and I took lots of photos but mostly of my little nephew... So there is not much new stock I'm afraid.

But fear not, looks like me and my guy will be moving shortly and who knows what great new stock i can find to take photos of on the way? :)

Travelling home

Changes - important
The overwhelming respond and use of my stock since i opened this account has left me with a huge smile and happy feelings deep inside! But for a year now i have been falling behind more and more in posting comments on the work that you all have done using my stock. It has reached the point where my 2 accounts on dA together with my business, life and work takes every bit of time that i can spare.  So to be able to cope i am changing my rules slightly and i hope you understand.

The only difference is that I can no longer promise to comment on your artwork when you leave a link.

I will when time allows still try and comment on a few but from now on I simply do not have enough time. I will however still fave all the work you notify me of so it can s till be viewed through this account for some extra exposure. :heart:

The new deadline for the Grimm fairytale contest was 2nd August 2011 midnight GMT! This means that on Tuesday night midnight in Britain, the contest ends. Contest time!

It's time for my yearly contest and this year I have followed the poll result from you guys to inspire what theme to host. The theme in the poll that won was fairy tales, legends and myths so I picked fairy tales.

There are loads of nice prizes too, keep reading this journal and get started with creating those awesome entries! :eager: :iconcheerplz: :boogie: :love:


Theme

We have all surely heard, read or being told fairy tales as a part of growing up, and some of the classic fairy tales has survived literally hundreds of years being as popular today as they were back in the days they were written.

Two of the classic masters of fairy tales were the Grimm Brothers who published more than 200 stories and among them some of the most famous classic fairy tales to this day.

Now what would have had happened to the stories if the Grimm Brothers would have written them in a different and jumbled up way? Would Little Red Riding Hood actually be Cinderella looking for her grandma in the castle village where she encountered a bad wolf? Or would The Frog Prince actually be the "small" Beast in Beauty and the Beast? Or would perhaps the Town Musicians of Bremen be the three bears from Goldilocks looking through the window of a gingerbread house from Hansel and Gretel? Each and every fairy tale we read today could have been different. What new stories would emerge if two or more fairy tales were combined?


Submission details

This contest will focus on 10 of the most well-known of the Grimm Brothers Fairy tales and your task is to combine 2 or more of the stories in this list to make an amazing piece of artwork picturing a unique new Grimm Fairy Tale.

(Each story has a direct link to the fairy tale in case you want to know what the story is about. The links are not any official publishing and the version of the stories may be slightly different from the original stories. They are merely a help to get an overview of each story for your creative process.)

Little Red Riding Hood (Little Red Cap)
The story of the three bears (Goldilocks)
Cinderella
Beauty and the beast
Town Musicians of Bremen
Little Snow white (Snow white and the 7 dwarves)
Sleeping beauty
Hansel and Gretel
Rapunzel
The Frog Prince(The Frog King)

Choose 2 or more of the fairy tales from the list and combine them into an artwork depicting a scene from the new type of fairy tale those stories would form. You can combine them in any way you like, It can be anything from the tales themselves, a specific scene or moment in the story, or a more conceptual approach to it. The more unique and creative approach you have to creating this scene and combining the stories, the better.

You can enter as many times as you like but remember that the judges will look at quality and originality before anything else. Also remember that each entry must depict something from at least TWO of the fairy tales.  You can only win once so if one of your images gets the 1st place for example, all your other entries cannot qualify for more placements.


Rules


• The contest starts 22nd May 2011 and :new:ends midnight GMT 2nd  August 2011

• This contest is open for digital and traditional entries only. No written entries, photography or artisan craft.

• Each entry has to combine elements from at least 2 different stories of the once listed in this contest.

•      You MUST state which fairy tales you have combined in the artist comment.

• Each contestant are allowed unlimited amount of entries, but consider the judges will look at quality rather than quantity

• All entries must be new works not uploaded to dA prior to 22nd May 2011.

• The entries must contain at least one of my stock images used either as photo manipulation or as a reference for something in the artwork. It does not have to be overly visible, but need to be credited in the artist comments so I can see which stock you have used. (FAQ #217: What are "Stock and Resources" and can I use them in my submissions? FAQ #157: Can I use things created by other people in my submissions?)

• You must mention somewhere in the artists comments that the artwork is made for this contest with a link to my journal or the News article

• Once you have uploaded your entry to dA send me a NOTE with the title "contest entry" or "submission" or similar to link me to your entry.

• Make sure to credit and link all stock you use as is part of dA policy and follow the individual rules of the stockers. FAQ #81: How can I create links to other deviants, deviations, or websites?

It's time for my yearly contest and this year I have followed the poll result from you guys to inspire what theme to host. The theme in the poll that won was fairy tales, legends and myths so this years contest will be Fairy tales

Theme


We have all surely heard, read or being told fairy tales as a part of growing up, and some of the classic fairy tales has survived literally hundreds of years being as popular today as they were back in the days they were written.

Two of the classic masters of fairy tales were the Grimm Brothers who published more than 200 stories and among them some of the most famous classic fairy tales to this day.

Now what would have had happened to the stories if the Grimm Brothers would have written them in a different and jumbled up way? Would Little Red Riding Hood actually be Cinderella looking for her grandma in the castle village where she encountered a bad wolf? Or would The Frog Prince actually be the “small” Beast in Beauty and the Beast? Or would perhaps the Town Musicians of Bremen be the three bears from Goldilocks looking through the window of a gingerbread house from Hansel and Gretel? Each and every fairy tale we read today could have been different. What new stories would emerge if two or more fairy tales were combined?


Submission details


This contest will focus on 10 of the most well-known of the Grimm Brothers Fairy tales and your task is to combine 2 or more of the stories in this list to make an amazing piece of artwork picturing a unique new Grimm Fairy Tale scene.

(Each story has a direct link to the fairy tale in case you want to know what the story is about. The links are not any official publishing and the version of the stories may be slightly different from the original stories. They are merely a help to get an overview of each story for your creative process.)

Little Red Riding Hood (Little Red Cap)
The story of the three bears (Goldilocks)
Cinderella
Beauty and the beast
Town Musicians of Bremen
Little Snow white (Snow white and the 7 dwarves)
Sleeping beauty
Hansel and Gretel
Rapunzel
The Frog Prince (The Frog King)

Choose 2 or more of the fairy tales from the list and combine them into an artwork depicting a scene from the new type of fairy tale those stories would form. You can combine them in any way you like, It can be anything from the tales themselves, a specific scene or moment in the story, or a more conceptual approach to it. The more unique and creative approach you have to creating this scene and combining the stories, the better.

You can enter as many times as you like but remember that the judges will look at quality and originality before anything else. Also remember that each entry must depict something from at least TWO of the fairy tales.  You can only win once so if one of your images gets the 1st place for example, all your other entries cannot qualify for more placements.


Rules


• The contest starts 22nd May 2011 and ends midnight GMT 22nd  July 2011 (2 months)

• This contest is open for digital and traditional entries only. No written entries, photography or artisan craft.

• Each entry has to combine elements from at least 2 different stories of the once listed in this contest.

• Each contestant are allowed unlimited amount of entries, but consider the judges will look at quality rather than quantity

• All entries must be new works not uploaded to dA prior to 22nd May 2011.

• The entries must contain at least one of my stock images used either as photo manipulation or as a reference for something in the artwork. It does not have to be overly visible, but need to be credited in the artist comments so I can see which stock you have used. (FAQ #217: What are "Stock and Resources" and can I use them in my submissions? FAQ #157: Can I use things created by other people in my submissions?)

• You must mention somewhere in the artists comments that the artwork is made for this contest with a link to my journal or this news article.

•      You MUST state which fairy tales you have combined in the artist comment.

• Once you have uploaded your entry to dA send me *CAStock a NOTE with the title “contest entry” or “submission” or similar to link me to your entry.

• Make sure to credit and link all stock you use as is part of dA policy and follow the individual rules of the stockers. FAQ #81: How can I create links to other deviants, deviations, or websites?



Judging


The judges will score your entries according to:
Originality/idea/creativity – 30 points
Quality/effort – 30 points
Technical/artistic skill – 20 points
Following the rules – 10 points

New stock packs

I'm sure some of you have noticed already but I'm in the process of updating and replacing most of my stock packs. Many of my older ones just don't get any interest these days and the whole design for them feels a bit outdated. I have decided to renew them all which unfortunately will cause some problems if you have faved these older packs. My apologies for the missing links that will soon come once i remove the old ones. :blushes:

The new packs that will replace all old style ones are of 2 sorts: Exclusive packs for purchase and Prize Packs for contest prizes. Some for the Prize Packs are already up, go check them out! :D The other packs will come up shortly so keep your eyes out! There will be lots of new stock in these, but some of the older and more popular ones too.

Congratulations to the winners

Wow, there was so many absolutely beatiful entries, the quality overall was amazing and I want to thank each and everyone of you who participated for your efforts. I have judged each entry looking at the three critera I stated in the rules; creativity, sticking to the theme (relevance) and quality (visible time and effort put in), and as also stated in the rules; skill-level has NO importance in this contest. So without further ado, here the winners:

Motivation for winning: The realization of the space ship as a living breeding thing, and the details to make it so beliavable are astonishing. Everything about this work, from the designed logo for Explorer Inc, to the creature standing on top of the space ship, to the organic look of the limbs despite being a machine is no less than a perfect interpretation of the theme. The dimensional shift being like rings on water is also a truly unique approach and very successful one.

Motivation: An absolutely beautiful take on a planet far, far away. The colour scheme is wonderful leading the viewer into a world full of life and warmth, looking so familiar still so foreign, leaving one to wonder what amazing creatures can be found in this unexplored, beautifully detailed world.

Motivation: The bright colours and perfect balance instantly draw the viewer in to have a closer look. The unique and very innovative take on the actual travel between universes in the dimensional shift is fantastic, and the idea is very beauitfully done oozing a magical, out-of-this world feel.

Motivation: An absolutely fascinating spot in a world far away, this higly detailed work of a planet with both familiar and very alien creatures and landscape is a fantastic take on the theme. The ships details are flawless, having a very organic yet steampunk feel, fitting perfectly with the pilot looking out over the landscape pondering over this never before seen world.

Motivation: A beautifully detailed work of an alien creature, sitting majestically in a lush landscape full of plants and life. The efforts put into the creature and it's surroundings are clearly visible, with all that fur painstakingly detailed and the dragon-like end in a fab blue shine, who knows what other mystical life forms can be found in this world?

Another Universe - Another World contest

Theme:  The year is 3876. You have travelled through the dimensional shift in one of the amazing ships designed by the famous ‘Explorer Inc’ factory in Grande Berlin and entered a parallel universe riddled with galaxies of all forms and sizes. The ship you’re in are something out of this world, a true explorer of the unknown, being almost unknown itself, partly living, partly machine, taking you to territories never visited. And now, in this new universe it seems the worlds waiting to be explored are found in their millions; stars and supernovas, planets and moons, asteroids and strange light phenomena’s are all around you. You decide to do a quick survey of the nearest solar system to see if any life forms might be existing on any of the terrestrial bodies, and if there is life, how advanced is it? The worlds you are about to visit will prove to be something you could never imagine even in your wildest dreams, filled with fantastical sceneries and weird and sometimes dangerous life forms and environments but also full of so much beauty and signs of lost civilisations and ancient relics . Filled with excitement and joy over this unexplored universe, you set out to explore as many worlds and galaxies you can.

Entries:  Your task will be to create one or several artwork/s depicting anything from this travel to a different universe; entering the dimensional shift, the universe itself, the spaceship in which you travel, a solar system, a world you visited on a planet, moon or asteroid, life forms encountered. Anything within the parameters of the above story line is accepted, imagination is the limit.

Deadline: Contest entries are accepted between 3rd of March 2010 until Midnight GMT on the 3rd of June 2010.

The Rules:
:bulletgreen:You must use at least one of my stock photos in your entry/ies. If you don’t know what stock is please read this: [link]
:bulletgreen:Your entry must be a new work only, created for this contest and not uploaded to dA before 3rd March 2010.
:bulletgreen:You are allowed unlimited amounts of entries. Consider though that I judge quality, not quantity
:bulletgreen:This contest is open for both traditional and digital media entries as long as it contains my stock in some way. You are allowed to use my stock as reference, but it needs to be clear which stock has been used. (Sorry no photography or written entries allowed.)
:bulletgreen:Send your entry/ies to me by note only.
:bulletgreen:Make sure to credit all stock used and follow the rules that might come with the stock you use.

Judging: I will be judging the entries looking at 3 criteria; creativity (interpretation and idea of your artwork) sticking to the theme and quality (as in well thought through and visible time put in to create your artwork). This means that anyone one who has a good idea for an artwork sticking to the theme and also put in the time, effort and thought into their entry, has an equal chance of winning despite skill level.

Back from the volcano

Wow


I'm back from the trip to Hawaii and to sum up this awesome holiday; I SAW LAVA!!! That kind of says it all, at least since seeing flowing lava has been one of my dreams come true being a somewhat geological nerd :D I have as promised taken loads of photos that I know will start to sift through and upload. There will be lots of landscape shots from rainforests, mountains, valleys, hills, desert, lava fields, beaches, coast lines etc. Also i saw that i still haven't uploaded some kite shots from my last trip to Brecon beacons national park as i promised, so they will be uploaded as well.

And as you can imagine i have quite a few notes and comments to go through to see all the fab art you've made while i've been gone, so please have patience if you are waiting for a reply, i will get to it asap :heart:

Oh glorious Wales


Wow, so much visitors the last weeks from Sweden, and we have explored Wales by car. And WOW, I didn't realize it was this magnificant and beautiful just 45 minutes drive from where I live nowdays :omg: I've been taking loads of photos from Brecon Beacons National park, so expect some uploads of mountain panoramas and flying red kites soon! (More birds, I know.. ;))

Castles and new stock coming soon


An update; I'm off to Sweden to visit family and friends for the coming week and therefore you won't see me in here until i get back. While I'm gone over to the northern regions I will take as much summer stock as possible and upload them here when i get back :D So lots of more nature and landscape shots as well as possibly some more model stock (if time permits)

I have also uploaded some pics form the inside of Caerphilly castle ruin, hopefully you can come up with some fab things with those while I'm gone :heart:

Castle ruins


Finally I can start uploading some new stock for you guys! To celebrate the move to Wales the first series gonna have to be from some local castles :D We start with Caerphilly castle that is just outside Cardiff, and later on I will upload more from the indside of this magnificant building. Next stage will be photos from the huge castle in the city centre of Cardiff. Hope you all can enjoy this first round despite this serie being taken with my older cam :heart:

I have selected 9 stock photos from my gallery, the challenge is to use at least one of them (or several or all) in a photo manipulation or as reference for creating something themed "Winter". Anyhting that has to do with the winter season in any way is allowed. You have to include a small explanation of the winter themed work in the description underneath your work. As long as the explanation makes sense about why your picture is connected to winter (if it's not obvious in your image of course) it will be accepted as an entry. Use your imagination!

I'll be judging the entries mainly on impact on viewer, meaning something you go "wow" when you see. I will also add extra positive points for entries that has followed all the rules without getting any remiders or corrections from me and for entries that also contains stock from any of my stock sisters; *steppelandstock, *Beinspyred and/or ~LucieG-Stock

1. All my stock images can be used for ANY creative work. Manipulations, references, ideas, competitions, collages, banners, webdesigns etc. You are however not allowed to reproduce my stock without changes and claim it as your own.

2. You have my full permission to do prints, post outside dA or whatever commercial or non-commercial plan that you'd like to do with your creation that contains my stock.

3. You need to credit me in your description (on dA, and when possible outside too but it's not a rule) but it's optional to inform me of your deviation or other work. However, if you send me a link to your work and you have linked back to me or the used stock image in your description I WILL FAV YOUR WORK so others that visits this page can see it. And if you let me know it will also make me very happy since i love seeing what happens to my stock! :heart:

Rules for using my stock!

My stock is here on dA for the purpose of being a resource for artists needing references and stock photos for designs and manipulations of all kinds. They are not to be used as is and unaltered.


:bulletblue: All my stock is unrestricted. Unrestricted stock means that as long as you use it in your designs, tutorials and art, you can use that art or design you made in any commercial or non-commercial plan.

:bulletblue: I have one clause that concerns my premade backgrounds. This stock can not be used to make other stock.

:bulletblue: Always credit me where possible. I understand that when you go commercial or start posting portfolios and such on other sites it is not always possible, but if you can, please do.

:bulletblue: You can use my stock as part of tutorials. This means that you are allowed to give links for direct download of my stock in the tutorial-set or include my stock as part of the download package of the tutorial. In other words, you may redistribute my stock as stock in tutorials as long as you credit me so people can see where the stock came from and what rules apply to it.

:bulletblue: Other than the tutorial exception, you MAY NOT redistribute my stock as is, you have to make noticably changes to it first, to make it your artwork. Once it is your work, you can do what you want with it. If you are not sure, contact me first and ask. (Note me here on dA or write to my email info@cassiopeiaart.com )I log into my stock account several times a week and i check my emails daily, so if you mention "response needed quickly" or something similar in the title, i will get to your question within a few days at most.

:bulletblue: Have fun, enjoy the free stock and make fab art. No need to inform me of your work that contains my stock, that is totally up to you. However, i do get very happy when i see the art you make and if you do notify me i will fave (here in dA) your work as a thank you.
